Rhinoplasty Myths (2)

1.    Rhinoplasty does not leave scars at all.

Rhinoplasty leaves scars, just as any surgical procedure does. However, a good cosmetic surgeon is able to hide the scars usually within the nose thus making them invisible to the eye.

2.    Plastic materials are used for a plastic surgery.

This belief simply stems from the name of the surgery, “plastic surgery.” Some people believe that plastic surgeons use plastic materials for making the desired changes. This is just a misconception. The word “plastic” comes from Greek and means to mold or form something.

When surgeons insert materials, particularly in the bridge to make it taller or thinner, they use either biological or synthetic materials, but they are not made of the everyday plastic you are familiar with. They are carved to create just the right, natural look and not an awkward, obviously touched-up nose.

3.    People around you will definitely know that you have undergone a rhinoplasty.

Of course if your nose requires a major change – like that of a large bump removal– people around you might notice the difference in your appearance. However, if your nose needs only a little refinement of the bridge or tip, the change in your appearance will be less dramatic. People around you will surely notice your enhanced appearance, but they will not guess what has caused that change. After all, nobody is as closely familiar with your facial features as you are, so making a minor change to them may not be very obvious to the outside world.

A good plastic surgeon will strive to achieve a balance between your nose and the rest of your facial features instead of providing you with an “operated-looking nose”.
