1. A post-rhinoplasty nose will melt in the sun.
Although this sounds ridiculous, some people do actually believe in this myth. The reason that this rumor exists at all is the so-called instant surgery that uses candle wax injections to reshape the nose. Such paraffin wax does indeed react poorly to heat. Sun and extreme heat can melt the implant and distort its shape. However, certified, quality-driven surgeons use rubberized silicon for nasal implants which are unaffected by sunlight and heat sources.
2. Rhinoplasty is a painful procedure
Unlike other plastic surgeries rhinoplasty is not usually painful. Most plastic surgeons usually perform it under general anesthesia, so you will be fully asleep and will not feel a thing. After the surgery, you will have a small nose cast for 7 to 10 days, during which you will most likely feel congested, as if having a cold. The area around your nose and eyes may be swollen and bruised (especially if your nasal bones have been reshaped. However, the overall discomfort that you will experience after the surgery is minimal.
3. Rhinoplasty leaves terrible scars.
This myth exists together with the myth that there are no scars at all after rhinoplasty. Many women are afraid that they will have to wear tons of makeup in order to conceal the scars. In fact, a good surgeon is capable of making the scars absolutely invisible by hiding them within the nose, or doing his best to make them extremely thin and flat – almost invisible to the naked eye.
There are many other myths surrounding rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery, so be sure to talk to a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon to have all your questions answered with facts, not falsehoods.
