Nose Job Without Surgery

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

A nose job without surgery, also known as an injection rhinoplasty, non-surgical rhinoplasty or a “15-minute nose job” is an excellent solution for those patients who are scared about rhinoplasty surgery and its cost or are doubtful about the surgical outcome. A nose job without surgery is painless, scarless and reversible in case the patient is not satisfied with the results. It allows patients to obtain quick results with little or no healing time.

Of course non-surgical rhinoplasty has some disadvantages in comparison with the traditional nose job since it cannot actually reduce the size of a large nose. However the creation of symmetry or smoothing out of contour irregularities can give the nose a smaller look. Furthermore, injection rhinoplasty can be a great alternative to surgical revision rhinoplasty for patients dissatisfied with the results of primary rhinoplasty.

Anyone with a mild to moderate nasal hump or a drooping nasal tip who does not want to change the size of their nose is a candidate for injection rhinoplasty.

The non-surgical nose job is a great option for Asian clients who have a flattened nasal bridge and/or a broad, poorly defined nasal tip and dorsum. The procedure does not result in a “Caucasian” appearing nose since the fundamental structure of the client’s nose is not being altered.

A non-surgical rhinoplasty is also recommended for teenagers who are concerned about a cosmetic nasal irregularity since it is a temporary procedure and does not permanently alter the normal anatomy (teenagers are still growing and cosmetic surgery of any kind is really not recommended for this age group).

Nose Surgery Benefits

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

Nose surgery is very popular nowadays. It can considerably improve both the nasal function and appearance. In many cases, a patient who has come with a serious breathing problem may go home with a healthy nose and the added benefit of an esthetically pleasing nose.

A lot of changes can be brought to a nose through nose job. Its size can be reduced or augmented and its shape can be altered so that it complements the rest of the facial features.

Among the most common nose defects are: inappropriate width, visible humps or depressions at the bridge, a nasal tip that is too large, drooping, bulbous or too upturned, large nostrils and nasal asymmetry. Rhinoplasty may address all of the above mentioned problems.

A deviated septum is one of the most common causes of breathing problems for both men and women. The inside of a nose is a hollow cavity. This cavity is divided into two sections by the septum. Correctional surgery is a must if the septum is not straight and these two sections or passages are not equal since that may cause serious breathing problems. As soon as the septum is modified and the symmetry of the two passages is created or restored, the breathing problem will vanish.

Aging and gravitation may also change the characteristics of nose cartilage making it droop and causing breathing difficulties. In this case, the cartilage will be lifted and the air passage freed again for better breathing.

Thus, the two main benefits of nose surgery are the enhancement of the patient’s appearance and the improvement of the nasal function. If there is something wrong with your nose, either functionally or aesthetically, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with a Los Angeles plastic surgeon to become both healthy and the best-looking you.

Nose Augmentation with Nasal Implants

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Nose augmentation with nasal implants is a complex procedure which should be performed by an experienced and board-certified rhinoplasty surgeon.

Generally, the rhinoplasty surgeon creates a nasal pocket into which the specially designed implant is inserted. Normally, sutures or a tight fitted pocket are used for holding these implants in the appropriate place. After the  plastic surgery, the patient has to wear a nasal splint for a week to keep the implant in the correct place.

Oftentimes, nasal augmentation is accompanied by the reduction of the nostrils or the flare of the nasal ala. To accomplish this, an incision is made in the nasal alar crease, the excess ala is removed, and the size of the nostril opening is reduced.

Sometimes nasal “strut grafts” are used to increase the height and projection of the nasal tip. Grafts are also used in the pre-maxilla, or the area between the nose and the upper lip, in order to reduce the appearance of a sunken mid-face.
Nasal augmentation is an outpatient surgery. It is performed under sedation or with general anesthesia and takes about one hour. Usually the patients are able to return to their everyday activities within one to two days.

In general nasal augmentation is a rather safe procedure. The nasal implant surgeries that carry a high risk for complications are revision surgeries. Because of prior multiple surgeries the circulation to the nasal skin is sub-optimal, thus there is a higher chance for implant extrusion or displacement, skin breakdown, infection, and scarring.

The best way of minimizing complications associated with nasal implant surgery is to use autologous grafts when possible and to look for a board-certified Los Angeles plastic surgeon with adequate experience in nasal implant surgery.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Rhinoplasty recovery requires patience and time. Generally patients are able to return to their normal activities in a week, but the final recovery results are visible only  6-7 months after surgery. Participation in sports or returning to activities like weight lifting, may be resumed two weeks after the surgery. Joining any activity that might cause the patient to blow his/her nose is to be avoided for about eight weeks. Airline travel is also not recommended in the first few weeks.

Immediately after the rhinoplasty surgery patients are prescribed to take antibiotics, pain and steroid medications which help to lessen such post-operation effects as a feeling of puffiness of the face, aching in the nose area and dull headaches. Patients are advised to stay in bed with their head elevated for the first 24 hours and to avoid being outdoors for at least a week.

Another post rhinoplasty effect is swelling and bruising which becomes very visible in two or three days after the nose surgery and disappears in 2-3 weeks. Ice packs and cold compresses may be applied to lessen swelling and bruising.

Bleeding for the first few days after the nose job is quite common, though it may seem alarming for patients. To ease the rhinoplasty recovery it is recommended not to blow the nose for about one week. Another common post-operation instruction requires the patients not to bend over with the head below the heart as it might lead to intense swelling and bleeding.

Rhinoplasty is a complicated form of facial plastic surgery, and to achieve the best nose job results, the patient should be diligent and patient enough to perform all the instructions given.

Revision Rhinoplasty: Before You Undergo It

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

Revision rhinoplasty, also known as tertiary or secondary rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is performed to correct a prior unsuccessful nose job. People who are not satisfied with the primary rhinoplasty results seek a revision surgery which is even more challenging than the primary one. It requires more experience and knowledge as the previous changes must be taken into consideration.

Patients who want to undergo revision rhinoplasty must be patient as it takes a full year for the nose to completely heal and during the first six months of recovery there will be some swelling and distortion. Time is also needed for the patient to adjust to his/her new appearance as dramatic changes to the appearance may be alarming at first, but may become very satisfying with time.

Patients with non-realistic expectations of the primary rhinoplasty are more prone to revision rhinoplasties. Not all cosmetic procedures may turn out the way the patient anticipates and a   surgeon who promises the exact nose you dream may be just trying to get into your wallet.

Revision rhinoplasty may be done by the primary surgeon, but in most cases patients prefer to turn to a different surgeon for a complete enhancement or correction of minor flaws. There are cases when the primary surgeon may choose to recommend one of his colleagues who might be better suited to perform a revision. Whatever the case might be, it’s up to the patient to make the final call on his/her second Los Angeles plastic surgeon.

Why is choosing an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon so crucial?

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Choosing the right rhinoplasty surgeon can be a nerve-wrecking task. It is important to realize that certain post-operation side effects, such as rhinoplasty bruising, can and will occur, but with an experienced Los Angeles plastic surgeon the after effects can be limited. Here are 5 reasons why it is crucial to choose a board certified and experienced plastic surgeon.

1.    Experience

Rhinoplasty can be one of the most complex plastic surgeries and it is important to know that your rhinoplasty surgeon knows what he /she is doing before touching your face.

2.    Peace of mind

Having a knowledgeable rhinoplasty surgeon will give you the security and peace of mind you want when undergoing a cosmetic surgery. An inexperienced surgeon can leave rhinoplasty scars on your face and heart for a lifetime.

3.    Best return on investment

A plastic surgery conducted by an inexperienced surgeon may cause numerous follow-up visits and extensive future costs (e.g. the revision rhinoplasty cost).

4.    Receive the best after-care

Rhinoplasty bruising may occur after the procedure, but with the help of an attentive rhinoplasty doctor and staff supplying the best after-care side effects can be limited.

5.    Increased self-esteem

When you look better you feel better, and when a person feels better their self-esteem is boosted. According to statistics patients having a low self-esteem before rhinoplasty experience an immediate increase in their self-confidence after the procedure in case they believe there is no need for revision rhinoplasty. That’s why trusting your appearance to an experienced Los Angeles rhinoplasty surgeon is so crucial.
